Coffee Brew Guides

How to Brew the Best Coffee With the Pour Over Method:

  • Place Filter in Basket and rinse with hot water.
  • Weigh out whole bean coffee: 2 grams of coffee per 1 ounce of water.
  • Set your grinder to a medium fine grind. Adjust to achieve desired brew time and taste.
  • Grind coffee.
  • Discard Rinse water from brewing vessel.
  • Add ground coffee to filter.
  • Add around 25 grams (1 ounce) of water (195-205 F) to the coffee bed. Try to evenly saturate the bed so there are no dry spots. Wait 30 seconds.
  • Carefully pour in the remaining water from the middle of the brew basket and slowly move out towards the edges, then back to the center. Repeat this circular pour pattern until the desired weight is achieved. Remember 1 ounce of water for every 2 grams of dry coffee weight.
  • Overall brew time should be around 3 minutes before the water fully dissipates through the coffee bed. Enjoy!
  • If water drains too slowly, make the grind coarser. If water drains too quickly, make the grind finer.

How to Brew the Best Coffee With A Chemex:

  • Discard rinse water.
  • Add ground coffee to the filter.
  • Add 60 grams (~2 ounces) of 195-205 F water to the coffee bed aiming to evenly saturate the bed with no dry spots. Wait 30 seconds.
  • Carefully pour the remaining water using slow clockwise circles spiraling from the middle of the brewer out towards the edge and back to the center. Repeat until target weight is achieved.  For 64 grams of dry weight coffee, use 32 ounces of water.
  • It should take 4-5 minutes for the water to fully dissipate through the coffee bed. Enjoy!
  • If water drains too slowly, make the grind coarser. If water drains too quickly, make the grind finer.
