Finca Cuál Bicicleta Is Honduras Coffee With Heart

Despite living in a Honduras Coffee region with nutritionally-deficient soil from years of sugar cane production, Oscar Omar Alonzo decided to start growing coffee in El Trapiche in the mid-1990s. Within three years, through intensive irrigation and tireless attention, Oscar produced his first bountiful harvest. His farm, located near the Doña Dina waterfall, is surrounded by liquidambar sweetgum bushes and picturesque landscapes.

In the early 2000s, Oscar made another bold decision; he transitioned his fields to organic coffee. The transition was not easy. Without the aid of pesticides and other chemicals, initially, his production dropped dramatically. Still, Oscar persisted and eventually began producing award-winning coffee. He renamed his farm “Cual Bicicleta” or “Which Bicycle,” in honor of the persistent need to pedal forward to produce good, clean, environmentally-friendly coffee.

Oscar’s current offering from Finca (estate or farm) Cuál Bicicleta deep in the Honduras coffee lands is a bright and balanced micro-lot which tastes of molasses, raspberry and brown sugar. This Amavida Coffee Roasters Reserve Series coffee is the perfect way to celebrate perseverance in the face of hard odds and uncertainty. We hope you’ll enjoy and share it!

Thanks to our friends at the COMSA Coffee Cooperative for helping us tell the story of this great coffee.
