What do you need to know about Nyakizu?

This lot produced by Charles Kazunga, who is the owner of the coffee’s origin at Nyakizu. The region where this specialty coffee is cultivated, is a particularly competitive area given the advantageous attributes to grow higher-quality specialty coffee (good rain, high altitude, slow drying, cooler/longer nights).

Charles Kazunga built his first station in Nyakizu in 2012, realizing that centrally washed coffee was the future for Rwanda coffee. Today he works three washing stations with about 5,300 farmers. Together with Rwacof, Sucafina‘s origin operators in Rwanda, we’ve been able to source this specialty coffee to our Florida based roaster. Rwacof’s initiative is to continually improve coffee quality through farm-level cherry selection, in order to help add value to the farmer.

This fully washed, centrally processed specialty coffee is not only sustainably sourced, but also very smooth with flavor notes of butterscotch, Concord grape and nutmeg. We are thrilled to have a chance to roast this Rwandan Reserve Coffee by Charles Kazunga and the producers at Nyakizu!
