A Rare Colombian Micro-Lot from Tierradentro

In addition to being a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Tierradentro historical area in Inzá, Cauca, Colombia is home to the Nasa Indigenous Reserve. The Nasa community is nestled in a remote and mountainous region located an eleven hour drive from the capital city of Bogotá.

This particular micro-lot of Colombian coffee was grown and harvested by a group of six Nasa farmers on land that comprises fruit trees such as tangerine, plantain, and avocado as well as guama and bamboo. Many of the coffee trees interspersed on the hills in this community are quite old and have been producing high quality coffee for decades. Several tree varieties are present on the farms, including some “wild grown” coffee that has an irregular production cycle.

Growing a wide variety of crops allows for fallen leaves to act as natural fertilizers and to return nutrients such as nitrogen and potassium to the soil. Tierradentro’s nutrient rich soil coupled with meticulous harvesting and a sixteen hour dry fermentation has produced a rare coffee with more complexity than many other offerings from the Colombian coffee region.

The Bottom Line

Fans of Latin American coffees will find a lot to love about this one. This washed Colombian micro-lot was ethically sourced from coffee trees belonging to just six farmers in Tierradentro. Their hard work has resulted in an incredibly well-balanced cup of coffee that is rich, syrupy-sweet, and reminiscent of cola and lemon meringue pie. Get this rare coffee while you can, and be sure to check out our other single origin coffee offerings.
